I'm Not a Witch

Christine O'Donnell has released her first ad where the first thing out her mouth is I'm not a witch.  Then she goes on to explain that she is really you.  Umm last I checked I never had to tell people I wasn't a witch.  I think this ad was an absolute disaster.  She spoke extremely slow and looked very awkward.  I also think by putting the witch thing in her ad seemed to legitimize it and I think she would have been better off just ignoring it.  The polls now show her around 17 points behind Chris Coons and I think there is no chance she can win.  She has also stated that she has classified information that the Chinese are planning to invade America.  Michael Steele was asked about this on Lawrence O'Donnell's show and he seemed to say that he supports her on this charge. My question is why isn't this being investigated if the Republican Party is stating that they believe she got classified information.  Leaking classified information is against the law.  This election cycle just keeps getting crazier and crazier.

Rachel Maddow has been discussing on her show lately that the Beltway narrative is that Democrats can only play offense this year, that they cannot run on their on beliefs but instead shield them and then just hit republicans for their beliefs.  But as the clips shows some Democrats are running on their beliefs such as being pro-choice.  With so many tea party candidates with very extreme views I think she is right and that Democrats should run on what they stand for because they can show that there is a clear difference between the candidates.  I think one of the biggest problems for democrats this year is their horrible horrible communication strategy.  Not many Americans no that Obama lower taxes or that this has been one of the most accomplished Congress' in a very long time.  They have not communicated the Health Care bill well at all and many Americans still don't know the many benefits that are in it.  The only way Democrats can lessen the damage this November is to get out there and tout their accomplishments and make it known to Americans that almost all of those accomplishments were without the Republicans.

Christine O'Donnell is the gift that keeps on giving

Bill Maher showed a clip on his show from his old show Politically Incorrect in which Christine O'Donnell states that she used to dabble in witchcraft and had a date on a bloody satanic alter.  Just when you thought it couldn't get any better it does.  The media has gone absolutely crazy with this story and I think that that may backfire for the Democrats.  If I was Chris Coons I would completely avoid talking about this and just let the media hit on it.  Because if Coons hits her too much people may feel she is being attacked and he may lose support.  I don't think this will ultimately hurt her much but I do think it is hilarious.

John Stewart has annouced a rally of his own in contrast to Glenn Beck.  Stewart calls his rally the rally to restore Sanity.  His rally aims at the people who are often to busy to attend all the other protests because they have lives.  He also stated that this rally is aimed at the people who are in the middle, people who can disagree with someone without thinking they are Hitler.  I think this is a fantastic idea.  I also agree that I think whoever screams the loudest gets the attention but those screamers might not represent the vast majority of Americans.  I think this is the exact conversation we need to be having.  I think the political rhetoric has gotten completely out of hand and gets so personal that people on each side don't want to work with the other because who would want to aid Hitler.  Both the right and the left have demonized the last two presidents and made it so personal that we are coming to a point where we are too polarize to tackle the big problems facing this country.  I disagreed with Bush on 98% of what he did, but I think he is a good person who just has a different worldview than me.  I think when we make politics so personal it destroys the democratic process and we need to learn to disagree without being disagreeable.

The Tea Party is secretly ruining the Republican Party to aid Democrats

Christine O'Donnell defeated Mike Castle for the Republican nomination for the Delaware Senate seat.  In a surprise upset virtually unknown tea party candidate comes from nowhere and defeats a longtime Delaware politician who has never lost an election.  O'Donnell win turns this state from a solid Republican win into a solid Democrat win.  O'Donnell has not had very good things come out about her in the course of this campaign and just basically shows anyone can win in a Republican Primary this year.  Her problems were so bad even the NRSC was running against her.  She has been found to have used campaign donations to pay her rent and lied about her college degree.  What she has been most famous for is the fact that she was founded an organization called SALT which promoted abstinentance including barring masturbation.  The republican party has got to find out how to deal with the fact that the fringe of their party is now becoming the mainstream of their party and figure out how they can appeal to moderates and independents with such far right candidates.

Media Becomes absolutely obsessed with Crazy Pastor

The media has become obsessed with this obvious attention whore of a pastor.  The man leads barely a congregation of 50 people but he is being descended upon by not only national press but international press as well.  The simple reason for this is the media and America in general love some crazy.  That is why Britney and Lindsey lead the news and Jersey Shore is number one on TV.  But the difference here is that by paying attention to this man we may be risking the lives of our soldiers and innocent people overseas.  Terry Jones is threatening to burn the Koran which has raised fears that radicals overseas will become enraged and attack our forces.  This is why the media should absolutely ignore him and quit giving him the only thing he was looking for in the first place:attention.  We even hurt the Westboro Baptist Church's feelings because they said that they have burned the Koran before and no one paid attention to them!  We will always have crazy people but to elevate them to national attention only seems to legitimize their beliefs and thats not what we should be doing

Beheadings What beheading?!

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has finally backed off her statement that there are beheadings going on in Arizona due to illegal immigration.  Here is the clip were she originally strongly contends that completely made up idea.

Many people investigated her claim and many medical coroners were asked about the tons of headless bodies and of course their wasn't one strand of evidence to back up her demagoguery.  At the debate the other night her opponent asked her about the headless bodies and she just simply ignored the question.  After the debate a group of reporters asked her about the beheadings and she just stares at them.  They plead with her to answer the question and she again just stares and then says thanks and runs.

But finally she has recanted....well kinda.  She states that IF she said it she misspoke and NEVER meant to infer that that was happening in Arizona.  As you could see from the first clip she was quite clear when the host followed up on the statement that she meant what she said.

Media Leaves out Important Caveat in Unprecedented Gallup Lead for Republicans

Many media outlets trumpeted the largest lead in the generic ballot Gallup poll in history! As you'll see in this clip the anchor trumpets that since Gallup began polling in 1942 it has never seen a lead this big. Well not rally.  The important caveat that almost everyone ignored that was posted right on Gallup's website in the same article is that it is only unprecedented for Republicans.

From Gallup's article on the poll:

Large leads on the generic ballot are not unprecedented for Democrats. The widest generic ballot lead in Gallup's history was 32 points in the Democrats' favor, measured in July 1974, just prior to Republican President Richard Nixon's resignation over the Watergate scandal. This large margin illustrates Democrats' historic dominance over Republicans in registered voters' party identification in the decades since World War II. Democrats controlled the House of Representatives continually between 1955 and 1995, and routinely held generic ballot leads in the double digits during that period.

If this was not pointed out to you, you would think the biggest lead a party has ever had was 10 points. Of course by looking at the same article you see that the biggest lead isn't 10, its 32.  I find now that this is the biggest problem with the media. Its not what they put in their reporting its what they leave out.

Glenn Beck doesn't Think Obama's a Racist just not a Christian

After his rally on Saturday, Glenn Beck appeared the next day on Fox News Sunday where the host asked him if he regrets referring to the President as someone who has a deep seated hatred for white people. Beck replied that he does regret it and that he now realizes what he was really seeing was President Obama's theology. Beck then goes on to explain he believes that the theology the President follows isn't really Christian and that's what has bothered him.  It was really disturbing to me to see this because its a theme that has played out in American History over over.  Kennedy was eyed with suspicion because he was Catholic and many felt that he would be loyal to the pope over the nation and be at his beck and call.  Another important side note is at that time and still now many protestants don't consider Catholics to be real Christians.  The same fear rose but not as much with the candidacy  of Mitt Romney because he is Mormon.  Many Protestants and Catholics do not see Mormons as real Christians and many Evangelicals hold the view that they distort the Bible.  Glenn Beck is also Mormon and which is part of the reason I was surprised.  Beck's audience is largely made up of Conservative Evangelicals and I always wondered if he would ever delve into the subject of theology considering so many evangelicals hold such negative views of Mormon Theology.  On a side note, I personally believe that religion is an extremely personal belief and that no one has the right to question your beliefs and state they don't live up to their standard.
